Material & Care
Material & Care
To maintain the sleek appearance and structural integrity of your HomeX Motorised Louvre Roof, please follow these specialized care instructions designed for New Zealand’s unique environmental conditions.
1. Material Excellence
- 6063-T6 Aluminium Alloy: The frame and louvres are constructed from high-tensile, architectural-grade aluminium. This ensures maximum structural strength and natural resistance to rust and corrosion.
- Premium Powder Coating: Finished with a heavy-duty, UV-resistant powder coat to prevent chalking, fading, and corrosion from New Zealand’s high-UV and salt-heavy coastal air.
- Stainless Steel Hardware: All internal connectors and hardware components are selected for their ability to resist oxidation and maintain stability in outdoor environments.
2. Cleaning & Maintenance
Surface Cleaning
- General Wash: Wipe down the aluminium frame every 3–6 months using a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
- Coastal Maintenance: If located within 5km of the coastline, we recommend rinsing the structure with fresh water more frequently to prevent salt crystal buildup, which can eventually degrade the finish.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use bleach, acid-based cleaners, or abrasive scouring pads. These will damage the powder-coated surface and void the finish warranty.
Drainage System
- Clear Gutters: Regularly check the internal gutters and support posts for leaves, twigs, or debris. A clear gutter system is essential to ensure the 100% waterproof drainage function works correctly during heavy rainfall.
Motor & Operation
- Monthly Cycle: Operate the motorised louvres through a full 0°–100° cycle at least once a month. This keeps the drive mechanism and seals in optimal working condition.
- Obstruction Check: Always ensure there are no overhanging branches or foreign objects obstructing the louvres' movement before operating the remote control.
3. Safety & Protection
- High Wind Management: During extreme storm events or high wind warnings (approaching 220 km/h), it is recommended to leave the louvres in a slightly open position (approx. 45°). This allows air to flow through the structure, reducing wind uplift pressure.
- LED Lighting Care: Clean the integrated LED strips only with a dry microfibre cloth. Ensure the power is switched off before cleaning.
- Hardware Check: Periodically inspect the structure and tighten any visible bolts or fixings to ensure long-term stability and safety.

Frequently Asked Questions | HomeX Louvre Roofs
Can I control the amount of sunlight under the pergola?
Can I control the amount of sunlight under the pergola?
Absolutely. The motorised louvre blades can be adjusted via remote control from 0° to 100°. This allows you to have full sun, partial shade, or total coverage while maintaining airflow and ventilation.
What is the benefit of a freestanding louvre roof over a wall-mounted one?
What is the benefit of a freestanding louvre roof over a wall-mounted one?
A freestanding HomeX louvre roof offers total flexibility. Since it doesn't require attachment to your home's cladding or structure, you can place it anywhere—by the pool, in the center of your garden, or on a detached deck—without worrying about your house's structural integrity or weather-tightness.
What maintenance is required for the motorised system?
What maintenance is required for the motorised system?
Our systems are designed for low maintenance. We recommend clearing the gutters of leaves twice a year and rinsing the powder-coated aluminium with fresh water every 3–6 months to prevent salt buildup. The motor is self-contained and designed for long-term outdoor use.
Does the HomeX louvre roof come with built-in lighting?
Does the HomeX louvre roof come with built-in lighting?
Yes. Every HomeX motorised louvre roof includes integrated LED strip lighting. These are built into the frame to provide elegant, ambient lighting for evening entertainment, controlled via the same remote as the roof blades.
Are HomeX motorised louvre roofs completely waterproof?
Are HomeX motorised louvre roofs completely waterproof?
Yes. When the louvres are fully closed, the blades form a 100% waterproof seal. Rainwater is collected by an integrated internal gutter system and channeled down through the support posts, keeping your outdoor furniture and patio dry.
How much wind can the HomeX freestanding pergola withstand?
How much wind can the HomeX freestanding pergola withstand?
Our louvre systems are engineered for New Zealand's rugged conditions. The HomeX freestanding structure is wind-rated up to 220 km/h (subject to site exposure and correct installation), making it suitable for most high-wind zones across the country.
Does the louvre roof require council consent in New Zealand?
Does the louvre roof require council consent in New Zealand?
In most cases, a freestanding pergola under a certain size (typically 20-30 square meters) does not require a building consent. However, rules can vary by local council (e.g., Auckland vs. Christchurch). We recommend checking with your local authority regarding boundary setbacks and maximum height.
